![]() I'm not a super fan of Elder Scrolls, especially not Oblivion but the games are easy to get into and the underlying mechanics aren't obtuse to learn and the games feel rewarding. I tend to play really low key stuff like Technomancer and MARS and even if they are rough I can see some merits in the game. I would definitely have preferred more strike options like in Gothic/Risen, as weaving lateral and overhead strikes in response to enemies is very satisfying, but I still think it's pretty fun. The timing can be difficult to master, but it's very satisfying once you get used to it. The combat in Elex isn't the best system that PB has come up with, but I think it's certainly interesting. Especially in a world where Skyrim and Oblivion got 10s. ![]() I've seen people call the combat in every Piranha Bytes game bad and use that as a major thing to hold against the game, and I just don't get it. One could even say that eventually it becomes too easy, and this is a flaw I think all of the games share. As you learn more about the world and its inhabitants, the game becomes easier. ![]() Honestly, the thing I love about Elex and PB's other games is that you're playing a world rather than a character. But once you manage to eke out a path, there are few games out there that rival the feeling of accomplishment. The size makes it harder for the player to negotiate, and it can be really frustrating at times when you just have no idea where to go because it feels like everywhere you go is a deathtrap. I'll grant that the world design in Elex is a major step back from prior games, and I really hope they don't make it even bigger in Elex 2. You're not supposed to be able to kill everything you see. PB games like to present the player with an extremely dangerous world with the odds stacked heavily against them. One of Elex's (and most PB games') strengths is that you start out really weak.
